Barry's Bio

Barry Paul Sloan was born at Sir Alfred Jones hospital, Garston, Liverpool at 12:55pm on February 10 1981. 

He has two siblings, a brother, Jamie, who is a musician and a sister, Samantha, a hairdresser.

He grew up in Garston where he attended Hope Primary School and then Bankview High School. He later attended Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

Acting is not Barry's only talent as he is a trained musician (he studied for a B-TEC National Diploma in Rock and Pop Music) playing Guitar, Bass Guitar and Drums.  He was in a relatively successful rock band called Smiling Jackals from the age of 14 to 21.

In 2000 he landed his first role as Ivan in In His Life: The John Lennon Story. Then in 2002 he got the part of Sean Smith in Brookside which he played until 2003 for which he was nominated as Sexiest Male in the British Soap Awards 2003. Shortly after came the role of Darren in Pleasureland and in 2004 he was in I'm A Juvenile Delinquent - Jail Me! as Piers, The Courtroom as Barry Potter and Holby City as Kevin Sharpe.  Next came the role of Glynn in BAFTA award winning drama The Mark Of Cain and since December 2007 he has played Niall Rafferty in Channel 4's soap opera Hollyoaks for which he has been nominated as  Villain of the Year in the British Soap Awards 2008, Best Newcomer and Best Storyline in the 2008 National TV Awards and Best Bad Boy in the Inside Soap Awards 2008.
